Airport to villa by helicopter: the August arithmetic
In August the road between Olbia airport and the Costa Smeralda keeps its own schedule. The helicopter is the transfer that ignores it: Elicompany, which bases its own aircraft at Eccelsa, the airport's private aviation terminal, publishes a flight time of ten minutes to Porto Cervo. That is the whole argument. The rest is fine print — and the fine print decides whether the ten minutes actually happen.
The classic legs are airport to villa and airport to marina, with the car or the tender waiting at the other end. The same base reaches further when needed: Bonifacio in about twenty minutes, Rome in seventy-five, on Elicompany's published times. Along the length of the island the arithmetic gets stark — Helitaly, a Rome-based broker, lists Olbia–Cagliari at about 65 minutes in the air against roughly three hours by road.
Who flies, who brokers, what it costs
Most names in this market are brokers: intermediaries that source a certified operator for each flight. Helitaly says so openly. Elicompany is the other kind, with its own fleet — Bell 427, Agusta A109S Grand, Bell 407, Bell 505, Bell 206 — physically based at Olbia. In peak season the distinction matters: an aircraft already on the island starts from a different position than one that has to be found for the day.
Almost every quote is on request. Two exceptions give the market a shape. According to the indicative fares published by HeliFly, Sardinian routes run from about €1,160 for short hops to €6,970 for longer transfers, with landing fees and the luxury tax billed separately. FlairFly's Olbia page starts helicopters at €2,500 per hour, varying by aircraft, distance and season. Read both as anchors, not offers.
What decides feasibility
Three things, in practice. Weather: the flight is confirmed by the sky on the day, not by the contract. Authorizations: a private landing outside an airport needs one, which is why the Paris broker Aeroaffaires makes a point of handling landing permissions and coordinating directly with the villa manager or the yacht's captain. And a landing point: a property with a usable one gets the full ten-minute version; a property without one gets helicopter plus car for the last stretch — still worth having in August, but a different product, and better known before booking than after.
The August requests we see are rarely about price; they are about whether that landing point exists. The season is short and shared — Elicompany lists June to September as its operational peak, exactly the months when the road argues for flying. If the dates are fixed, the aircraft belongs in the same conversation as the villa: arranged when the stay is arranged, with the landing point confirmed before anyone promises minutes.
